HAPLD FRIENDS FOUNDATION
General Meeting
September 16, 2016

The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in the Library Program Room, Friday, September 16, 2016. Those in attendance were:

Nancy Bacheller, Diane Becker, Diane Benson, Sandy Cooper, Pat Cornwell, Deanna Engelke, Nancy Hardy, Genevieve Hochwarter, Stevie Massei, Shirley Nowak, Janis Ruffino, Martha Schooley, Mary Ann Schopen, Judy Schrader, Marge Smith, Leslie Threadgill-Smith; Library Intern, Candace Maloney; Library Communications Coordinator: Leigh Ann Porsch; Friends Liaison, Pamela Kampwerth; Library Director, Frank Novak

Prior to the meeting, Nancy Bacheller presented a short program on Huntley’s Historic Downtown area.

Thanking the speaker for her presentation, Genevieve called the meeting to order at 11:15.

Director’s Report

  • Marilyn Powell, circulation, is retiring the end of September
  • Four candidates for the two open Trustee seats will present themselves to the Board, September 21st before their meeting begins.
  • In April there will be 4 openings on the Board, three four-year terms and one two-year term.
  • This year A Very Merry Huntley will start at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2. The Library will be closed that day, giving the staff time to set up.

 

 Secretary’s Report

After reviewing the minutes, Pat moved that August’s minutes be accepted, Nancy seconded, the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Sandy gave the treasurer’s report which showed a balance of $23,193.20. Corner Books did especially well, $2053.27. Stevie moved the treasurer’s report be accepted, Judy seconded and the motion carried.

Book Sales

Fall Fest, at the Cosman Center, is the biggest book sale of the year. It requires many volunteers to make it successful. Everyone was encouraged to volunteer sometime during the weekend. The sale will be open 10-5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11-7:00 p.m. on Sunday. A new larger sign for the building indicates the Library Book Sale, Model Trains and Restrooms are inside. This will be the first time charge cards will be accepted.

Culvers Night

The next Culvers’ Night is Monday, October 10, 4-8:00 p.m. Volunteers need to sign-up.

Jewelry Sale Committee

Anyone interested in helping sort jewelry is invited to Genevieve’s house September 20th, 2:30 p.m. Take flyers advertising the sale and distribute to friends and neighbors.

Holiday Basket Committee

Holiday Basket Committee will meet following the meeting.

Library Trustee Meeting

The Library Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Program Room. Everyone is encouraged to attend at some time.

Chamber of Commerce

Leigh Ann reported that at the Chamber’s next mixer they would like to support a Chamber member’s charity and they decided on the Huntley Library Friends. Pam will speak at the mixer. The Chamber is putting together an Oktoberfest Basket for a raffle.

Giving Tuesday

This year Giving Tuesday is November 29th. Pam will be sending out letters to the Friends asking for donations to the Friends.

Shirley moved that the meeting adjourn, Martha seconded, the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
