President, Genevieve Hochwarter, called the meeting to order at 11:10. Pamela showed the PowerPoint presentation “Thank You for Being a Friend” which had been created for the Friends’ Breakfast in December.
Director’s Report
Frank expressed his thanks to the Friends for all the work they do to support the Library. It is expected the new governor will cut certain funding. At this point it is unknown how this will affect the Library. The Friends will be more important for their continued support. In April there will be an election for new Library Trustees. There are four openings and only 3 candidates. If there are no write-in candidates, the Board will appoint someone to fill the open position. The Winter Reading program has 280 children, 30 teens and 49 adults signed up.
November Meeting Minutes
The minutes were not available. They will be reviewed in February.
Marge read a letter from Frank Novak and Pam Kampwerth, thanking the Friends on behalf of the Library trustees and staff for all that the Friends do to support the Library. They expressed their thanks also for the $30,000 check they received in December.
Treasurer’s Report
Sandy Cooper gave the treasurer’s report which shows a year-end balance of $3240.79. Book Sales continue to be the major fundraiser, up $1.90 from 2013. Membership renewals and Holiday Baskets made a profit. The Holiday Luncheon shows a deficit. Donations to the Library for 2014, totaled $42,074.61.
Reta moved the report be accepted, Pat seconded. The motion carried.
December Book Sale
The December sale did well. It included an extra night. Friday night the sale was run in conjunction with the Village’s Holiday event. With Santa visits in the Library, a new audience was reached.
Library Lover’s Book Sale
The next scheduled Book Sale is February 7th and 8th. Volunteers are needed. On Sunday, Scott will look over the remaining books before the high school helpers come at 4:30 to pack up.
Holiday Baskets
The profits were a little more than last year. Over $700 was received in cash donations. This was used to make the baskets. Many businesses donated items. This is the 3rd year Meijer donated a $200 gift card. It was felt that the display on the counter behind the Information Desk was more visible. Pam encouraged people if they received gift cards during the year to consider donating them to the Friends.
Giving Tuesday
The annual appeal connected to Giving Tuesday brought in $2353. Donations are still being received. The Friends are registered with AmazonSmile. Members who use Amazon were encouraged to select the Huntley Area Public Library Friends Foundation as the charity to support. The Friends will receive .05% of sales.
February Fannie May Event
The event was canceled. A warehouse fire caused a loss of boxes, paper and candy.
February Library Lovers Heart Sale
Beginning February 1st, paper hearts will be for sale. Different colored hearts will indicate a different dollar amount. The hearts will displayed in the Library.
Culver’s Fundraiser
The next Friends’ night is March 23. Volunteers are needed. A Fall date is not available at this time.
Membership Renewal
The next mailing to the membership will include the newsletter, annual report and for those who have not renewed the membership, a renewal form. Approximately half the membership has a lifetime membership.
Ornaments are still on sale.
Pat Cornwell moved that the meeting adjourn, Shirley Nowak seconded. The meeting adjourned at 11:45.
Respectfully Submitted,
Marjorie Smith
