President, Genevieve Hochwarter, called the meeting to order at 11:08. Ballots for the Friends Board election were distributed.
Director’s Report
The Director was not available. Pamela Kampwerth reported that at the May Trustees’ meeting newly elected Trustees will be installed: Leslie Threadgill-Smith, William Jorgensen, David Moore, and Ann Christiansen.
Secretary’s Report
The April minutes were reviewed. Karen Hutchings moved the minutes be accepted, Pat Cornwell seconded, the motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Sandy Cooper gave the treasurer’s report which showed a balance as of April 30 of $13,443.48. Income was from Book Sales, Lincoln Breakfast, and Culver’s; expenses included insurance, Illinois sales tax, postage, and staff appreciation luncheon. Pamela and Genevieve explained that 501(c)(3) organizations need to pay state sales tax when goods are exchanged when more than one fundraiser a year is held: i.e. ornaments, books. The taxes are paid quarterly. Donations are not taxed. We hire an accountant to help with the taxes. Reta Stohs moved the report be accepted, Stevie Massei seconded. The motion carried.
Human Race
The Volunteer Center McHenry County coordinated the fifth annual Human Race on April 26. Fifty-five nonprofits participated at McHenry County College. The Friends will receive 60% of the registration fees from Library participants and 80% of donations made in the name of the Friends. Pamela has not received notification of our total.
Breakfast Fundraiser
One hundred tickets were sold for the Lincoln breakfast fundraiser. The response to the program was favorable. Sponsor donations totaled $3600.00. A decision of topic for next year will be researched.
Minilinks Committee
The next committee meeting is June 4th, 11:30 a.m. at Genevieve Hochwarter’s home following the Board meeting. The holes have been decided but sponsorship needs to be acquired. The August Book Sale will also be part of the evening so many volunteers will be needed to make the evening successful.
Book Sales
The June Book Sale is June 6 & 7. Reta Stohs asked for volunteers to sign-up. Volunteers are especially needed for Friday setup. Packing up will occur after the sale closes Sunday afternoon.
Growing Green Days
On the same weekend as the Book Sale, patrons can shop at The Growing Scene in Marengo and the Friends will earn 10% of the proceeds. A flyer identifying the shopper as a “Library Friend” is necessary to receive the funds earned.
Summer Reading Registration
Volunteers are needed to pass out folders. Over 1000 children and adults sign up for this program. All Library programs are funded by the Friends.
Board Election Results
The current nine board members were re-elected to serve another term. Terms of office are one year in length.
Pamela wrote an article for the Illinois Libraries Matter blog about starting a Friends Group.
The June meeting will be at Tom’s Farm in Huntley. Those wishing to stay for lunch should order their meal before the meeting.
Pat Cornwell moved that the meeting adjourn, Muriel Fink seconded. The meeting adjourned at 11:52.
Respectfully Submitted,
Marjorie Smith
