General Meeting
January 15, 2016
The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in the Program Room of the Library, Friday, January 15, 2016. Those in attendance were:
Diane Benson, Pat Cornwell, Connie Corwin, Muriel Fink, Marilyn Graunke, Genevieve Hochwarter, Karen Hutchings, Stevie Massei, Shirley Nowak, Janis Ruffino, Martha Schooley, Judy Schrader, Marge Smith, Bert Stohs, Reta Stohs, Pamela Kampwerth, Friends Liason and Frank Novak, Library Director
President, Genevieve Hochwarter, called the meeting to order at 11:07.
Director’s Report
Director Frank Novak thanked the Friends for the end of the year check to support Library programs. A new phone system is being investigated. The wall in by the circulation desk has helped reduce the cold from the entrance doors. The Winter Reading program has started.
Video
The video highlighting the year of Friends’ activities was viewed. Thank you to Cory Sesko for preparing it for the Friends’ Holiday Luncheon.
Secretary’s Report
The November minutes were reviewed. Connie moved the minutes be accepted, Pat seconded, the motion carried.
A Thank you note was received from the Director, Frank Novak, thanking the Friends for its yearly donation to the Library.
Treasurer’s Report
Diane Benson gave the treasurer’s report which showed a year-end balance of $2,675.49. The largest income for the year is from book sales. In 2015, the Friends were able to donate almost $40,000 to the Library. In December, Giving Tuesday and Holiday Baskets each brought in over $2500. Reta moved the report be accepted, Marilyn seconded, the motion carried.
Library Lovers Book Sale
Reta reported that she was very happy with last year’s book sales. She reported that Scott indicated there were plenty of “fine” books for the February sale. Sign-up sheets were available to volunteer for the Book Sale the weekend of February 6-7.
Winter Reading Program “Keep Calm and Read On”
The Winter Reading Program continues until February 14. This is one of the programs the Friends fund. Friends donate $2.00 Corner Book coupons for sign-up prizes and $1.00 coupon for completing the program. The Friends also donate a $25.00 gift certificate prize for the staff (they cannot win other grand prizes). Everyone was encouraged to sign up.
Library Lovers Basket Raffle
Three baskets will be on display through the month of February: A Lego Basket, a Dinner Basket, and a Spring Basket. These baskets will be displayed differently from the Winter Reading Program “baskets” so there will be no confusion.
2016 Calendar
The calendar for 2016 was distributed. On the back of the calendar Friends sponsors for 2015 were listed.
May Breakfast
The May Breakfast will be May 11. R. J. Lindsey will impersonate Benjamin Franklin.
Pat moved that the meeting adjourn, Marilyn seconded. The meeting adjourned at 11:31 a.m.
