Secretary’s Report
The February minutes were reviewed. Connie moved the minutes be accepted, Pat seconded, the motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Sandy Cooper gave the treasurer’s report which showed a balance of $12919.16. The $9113.72 income for February was from book sales, EFS Grant, membership, Library Lovers Raffle, and annual plea. The $473.85 expenses were for postage and United for Libraries membership renewal. Reta moved the report be accepted, Shirley seconded, the motion carried.
Book Sales
Reta reported that the February sale was very good. She asked that people sign up to work the April Book Sale. Help is always needed for setup, sales, and take down. Pam will not be available at this sale and credit card sales will not be accepted. A Galaxy tablet has been purchased for $120.00 but it hasn’t been set up yet. The PayPal device is free for the first tablet. The cost of taking credit cards will be about 2.7% of the sales.
Library Lovers Basket Raffle
This raffle was a new fundraising event. The four baskets were donated by Pam Kampwerth, Genevieve Hochwarter, Nancy Hardy and Sweet Repeats Resale Shop. There was no overhead for the event, $214.00 was earned.
Culver’s Night
The next Culver’s night is Monday, April 11. Volunteers are needed to work as greeters, runners, and raffle ticket sales.
April General Meeting
In an effort to have a larger attendance at meetings, special events will occur at some meetings. Kathleen Carr, from The Growing Scene, will make a short presentation, “New Plants for 2016”, at the April meeting. Because of limited space (32), people will need to register for the meeting. There will be a fundraiser at The Growing Scene May 20, 21, and 22. Customers will need to have a form from the Library when they make their purchase.
Breakfast, May 11
R.J. Lindsey, living history impersonator, will present “The Amazing Dr. Benjamin Franklin”. Tickets are available for purchase now. Sponsors are needed.
Director’s Report
Frank summarized the March Library Trustees’ Meeting
- An outdoor library sign was discussed again. The Village will be asked for a variance: not to have brick and concrete surrounding the sign.
- Now that the weather is better, work will start on the back staircase.
- The strategic plan is still being revised.
- How to increase digital literacy
- How to retool the staff and increase their digital literacy
- How to use interior space differently
- Need for Computer Lab
- Need for study rooms
- Frank is starting the budget process. He is asking for:
- New computers able to handle updated software
- More staff development funds
- A decrease in material budgets, space is too limited, staff asked to be more selective with purchases
- The Library wants to be more supportive of what schools are doing.
- Roku streaming devices will soon be available for circulation.
- A committee of Frank, Pam and Leigh Ann is aggressively seeking grants. Some grants are only available to 501c3 nonprofits, so the Library appreciates the Friends working together with them applying for grants.
- In eight years the “trailer” addition will need to be removed.
Pat moved that the meeting adjourn, Karen seconded. The meeting adjourned at 12:05 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Marjorie Smith
