HAPLD FRIENDS FOUNDATION
General Meeting
May 20, 2016
The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in the Program Room of the Library, Friday, May 20, 2016. Those in attendance were:
Diane Benson, Sandy Cooper, Pat Cornwell, Connie Corwin, Pat Darow, Betsy Davis, Deanna Engelke, Muriel Fink, Janet Gorgius, Nancy Hardy, Stevie Massei, Janis Ruffino, Judy Schrader, Marge Smith, Bert Stohs, Reta Stohs, Karen Zarembski, Pamela Kampwerth – Friends Liaison
Vice-President, Janis Ruffino, called the meeting to order at 11:07.
Director’s Report
Pamela Kampwerth reported for the Director:
The staff is preparing for the Summer Reading Program.
The sign is on hold. The Village did not give a permit for a variance.
A survey will be going out to library users and non-users, asking what they want to see
at the Library and if a non-user, why don’t they use the Library.
Board Election
The yearly election for nine Board members was held. All current members were running again. Ballots were distributed. No nominations came from the floor. Janis moved the nominations be closed. Judy seconded. Those on the current Board were all reelected. Officers will be selected at the next Board meeting.
Secretary’s Report
The April minutes were reviewed. Reta moved the minutes be accepted, Stevie seconded, the motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $19,383.19 as of May 18. The majority of income was from all book sales, $3035.41 and from the Breakfast, $5,260.71. Expenses included sales tax, insurance, donations to the Library, Breakfast and staff luncheon. The check from Culver’s hasn’t been received yet. Connie moved the report be accepted, Nancy seconded, the motion carried.
Requests from the Library
The Library has again asked for funds to use for staff appreciation throughout the year. Pat moved that the Friends give the staff $450.00. The Friends were also asked to sponsor Brainfuse. The Friends have sponsored it since 2010. Stevie move that the Friends give up to $3500.00 for the Brainfuse subscription. Pat seconded, the motion carried.
Book Sales
Reta encouraged everyone to sign up to work at the next Book Sale, June 4th and 5th and/or to set up on June 3rd. Pam will try out the tablet (Paypal) at this sale. Reta reminded everyone to put the dates of Fall Fest on their calendar, September 23-25. This is the biggest sale of the year and needs many volunteers.
Breakfast
This year’s Breakfast was very successful with a profit of $4947. The most tickets (145) ever were sold. Thank you to the sponsors who make this a successful event.
Summer Reading
The Summer Reading Program is one of the programs funded by the Friends. This year the theme is “Reading Colors Your World”. The white folders provided by the Friends encourage participants to draw on them. Volunteers are needed on registration days, June 8th and 9th, to hand out the folders.
Jewelry Sale Committee
A new fundraiser scheduled for October 22 will sell costume jewelry. Friends and their friends will be invited to donate jewelry they no longer want. Anyone interested in being on the committee should tell Pam or a board member. The first meeting will be June 14th, 11:30 a.m. at Genevieve Hochwarter’s home.
Miscellaneous
The Green Scene fundraiser is this weekend.
Reta reported that the Library Trustees’ meeting was postponed.
Pat moved that the meeting adjourn, Muriel seconded, the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
