Meeting Minutes – October 21, 2016

HAPLD FRIENDS FOUNDATION
General Meeting        October 21, 2016

The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in the Library Program Room, Friday, October 21, 2016. Those in attendance were:
Melody Bickoff, Diane Becker, Pat Cornwell, Connie Corwin, Pat Darrow, Nancy Hardy, Genevieve Hochwarter, Stevie Massei, Shirley Nowak, Jackie Pollack, Janis Ruffino, Mary Ann Schopen, Judy Schrader, Marge Smith, Library Intern, Candace Maloney; Library Communications Coordinator: Leigh Ann Porsch; Friends Liaison, Pamela Kampwerth; Library Director, Frank Novak

Genevieve called the meeting to order at 11:00, welcoming everyone during National Friends of the Library Week.

Director’s Report
Three new Trustees were appointed to the Board for terms ending in April: Chris Budzynski, Alissa Fewell, Marge Smith. Committee assignments were given.

In April, there will be four openings on the Board, three four-year terms and one two-      year term.

The Board Retreat is scheduled for December 5. When a location has been reserved it will be posted. The meeting is open to the public. Staff members will also participate. Discussion will include a strategic plan and what is the future of the library.

This year A Very Merry Huntley will start at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2. The Library will be closed that day, giving the staff time to set up. 

Bingo
Bingo was played until everyone had received a prize: a book, a Friends’ membership, or lottery card.

Secretary’s Report
After reviewing the minutes, Connie moved that September’s minutes be accepted, Pat seconded, the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report
Pam gave the treasurer’s report which showed a balance of $27,929.48. Corner Books continue to do well, $2610.93; the Baker & Taylor grant, $1000; business and individual donations, $1086.25.  Shirley moved the treasurer’s report be accepted, Nancy seconded and the motion carried.

Northern Illinois Regional Friends
Marge attended the Regional Friends meeting at Crystal Lake Library. Discussion included non-book fundraisers. A tour of the nonpublic areas followed the meeting. 

Donation from Huntley Biz Chamber
Janis, Pam and Director Frank Novak attended a mixer at the American Community Bank. The Chamber had a basket to raffle, Janis sold tickets. The profit was $105.00. A short presentation was given about the new storage case for DVDs that will reduce their footprint in the library by 5/6. 

Book Sales
The Fall Fest brought in $2010.25. 160 boxes were brought to the Cosman Center. Everything was unpacked and on tables by noon Saturday. Pam and Genevieve put felt cushions on all the table legs to protect the newly finished gym floor. High School girls helped Saturday and Sunday keeping the tables straightened, students came Sunday evening to pack the books and take down the tables.

Next book sales are November 5-6 and December 3-4. The sale will be open during Very Merry Huntley on Friday, December 2 from 3-8:00 p.m.

Culvers Night
The profit from Culver’s night was $548.65. The Culvers’ total was $38.00 short of being able to earn a 15% profit.

Jewelry Sale
The Jewelry sale will be set up later after the Library closes. The sale is Saturday from 9 to 2 p.m. $94 has already been earned.

Holiday Baskets
Holiday Basket Committee will meet following the meeting. The baskets will be on display November 18 to December 13.

Sun City Showcase
The Friends will share a table with the Library at the Showcase. The new DVDs will be on display. Marge, Janis and Pam will represent the Friends.

Holiday Luncheon
The date for this year’s luncheon is December 7 on a Wednesday instead of the usual Friday.

Jackie moved that the meeting adjourn, Pat seconded, the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 12:05 p.m.
