HAPLD FRIENDS FOUNDATION
General Meeting February 15, 2019
The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in the Library.
Those in attendance were: Diane Benson, Darcy Chadwick, Sharon Cleveland, Connie Corwin, Carol David, Nancy Hardy, Karen Hutchings, Shirley Nowak, Jackie Pollack, Janis Ruffino, Martha Schooley, Marge Smith, Reta Stohs, Pamela Kampwerth, Head of Circulation and Outreach Services; Leigh Ann Porsch, Head of Marketing and Public Relations; Frank Novak, Library Director
At 11:17 a.m. Vice-President Janis Ruffino called the meeting to order.
Director’s Report
Frank Novak gave an update on the building program. Citizens’ for Library Yes have been busy organizing promotional activities: yard signs, canvassing, etc. He asked if the assembled had questions. Leigh Ann and he have been talking to groups. Me +3 asks everyone to vote for the referendum, find 3 others to vote yes, asking them find 3 more. There are also four openings for Library Trustees on the ballot. Sean Cratty and Marjorie Smith are on ballot, Vito Benigno and Leslie Thread-gill Smith are running as write-in candidates.
Secretary’s Report
Jackie Pollack moved the January minutes be accepted, Reta Stohs seconded, the motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report
The January treasurer’s report showed a balance of $15,638.72. A check for $2,000 was given to the to the Citizens’ group to pay for referendum promotional items. Connie Corwin moved the treasurer’s report be accepted, Carol David seconded, the motion passed.
March General Meeting
The next General meeting is March 15th. The Library Director will give an update on the referendum.
Friends Board Strategic Planning Meeting
The Friends Board met February 1 to plan the coming year. The mission statement remains unchanged: …to raise funds to support and to promote the many resources available at the Huntley Library. The main issue for the new year is to increase membership. The calendar of events will be sent to the membership.
Library Lovers Fundraising in February
A library is being created from Lego bricks on display behind the information desk. Bricks, doors, windows, trees are on sale to add to the building.
Library Lover’s Book Sale
The February Book sale was very successful raising $1,024 dollars.
Building Program, Citizens for Library Yes
Nancy Hardy reported on the progress of the Citizens for Library Yes Committee. Yard signs, palm cards, buttons are on order. Volunteers are needed for canvassing and phone banking. She is gathering signatures for a full-page ad in the Sun Day newspaper. Volunteers are needed to man tables in the Library during programs to encourage people to register to vote and then to vote in April.
Volunteers are needed for the Friends table at the Huntley Business Expo, March 2. Hard hats and small Lego paper tablets to hand out to children. Yard signs and palm cards will be available encouraging people to vote Yes!
Culver’s Fundraiser, Monday, March 11
Volunteer sign-up sheets were available. Encourage people to come.
Volunteer Open House
Invitations will be mailed to all volunteers for an Open House at Pinecrest April 17, 1:00-2:30 p.m.
Fundraising Breakfast
The annual May Breakfast will be May 8, 2019 at the Boulder Ridge Country Club. R.J. Lindsey will portray R.E. Olds, founder of the Oldsmobile and will talk about the beginning of the automobile industry.
Human Race, April 28
The Friends are registered for the McHenry County Volunteer Center’s Human Race, Sunday, April 28. Supporters can run, walk and/or donate to the Huntley Library Friends Heroes.
Shirley Nowak moved the meeting adjourn, Martha Schooley seconded, the meeting adjourned at 11:52 a.m.
