Meeting Minutes – April 19, 2024

HAPLD FRIENDS FOUNDATION 

General Meeting April 19, 2024 

The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in Program Room 3 

Attendance: Darcy Chadwick, Deanna Engelke, Judy Engeriser, Pat DarowNancy Hardy, Genevieve Hochwarter, Theresa Krueger, Eleanor Mamayek, Marsha Natkins, Carol Neirinckx, Janis Ruffino, Susan Schwartz, Marge Smith, Karen Zarembski 

Staff: Pamela Kampwerth, Head of Programming and Outreach 

 At 11:00, Pamela Kampwerth introduced Kathleen Carr of The Growing Scene, Inc. “New Plants for 2024” 

 Following the program, President Genevieve Hochwarter called the meeting to order. 

 Secretary’s Report
Nancy Hardy moved the March minutes be approved, Janis Ruffino seconded, the motion passed unanimously.  

A letter was received from Doug Cataldo thanking the Friends for purchasing a new folding machine. 

Treasurer’s Report  

The treasurer’s report showed: checkbook balance of $89,668.47 petty cash $165.04, CD: $76776.99.  

Susan Schwartz moved the report be approved, Karen Zarembski seconded, the motion passed unanimously.  

Youth Services Summer Program 

Michele Whisenhunt, Head of Youth Services, requested $3000 to buy books for Summer Reading Program participants. Janis Ruffino moved to approve this request, Nancy Hardy seconded, the motion passed unanimously.  

Upcoming Fundraisers 

  • Culver’s Fundraising Night – April 22; Volunteer sign-up sheets available. Volunteering for this event continues to be a problem. 
  • June Book Sale—June 15 & 16; Preview June 14, 2-3:30 p.m. At the last Book Sale Discovery Books closed down. In the past they took all the remaining books. Some of the remaining books were put on tables in the Art Display hallway as a “pop-up” book sale. Thrift Books has been contacted to take books after the next sale. 

Library Donor Wall 

Friends information has been added to the Donor Wall located across from the Children’s Room. 

Handouts 

Many handouts were available: 2024 Calendar of Events; 2023 Annual Report; BookPage publication; Membership Renewal form; quarter sheets for Culver’s 

General Meetings 

  • May 17– no meeting; Fundraising Luncheon at the library 
    Program: “Spilling the Tea: Women’s Activism in the Revolutionary Period” by Sarah Sullivan from McHenry County college. $35/person, tickets go on sale April 1 – May 10 
  • June 21—Evening meeting, 6:30 p.m. “A Visit with Jane Austin” 

Susan Schwartz moved the meeting adjourn, Deanna Engelke seconded, the motion passed unanimously. 

The meeting adjourned at 12:18 p.m.
