General Meeting              March 15, 2024
The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in Program Room 3

Those in attendance: Darcy Chadwick, Connie Corwin, Deanna Engelke, Deborah Cullen, Karlith Gorka, Marilyn Graunke, Nancy Hall, Nancy Hardy, Theresa Krueger, Melanie LoPiccolo, Marsha Natkins, Shirley Nowak, Darlene Pratt, Tony Pratt, Carmen Romo, Janis Ruffino, Mary Ann Schopen, Marge Smith, Penny Thoma, Pat Totman, and Jim Zdeb

Staff: Pamela Kampwerth, Head of Programming and Outreach

At 11:00, Pamela Kampwerth introduced Alex Wyman who explained what services and materials are available in the Creative Studio.

Following the program, Vice President Janis Ruffino called the meeting to order.

Secretary’s Report

Connie Corwin moved the February minutes be approved, Jim Zdeb seconded, the motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report

The treasurer’s report showed: checkbook balance of $80,440.83, petty cash $165.04, CD: $76776.99.

Nancy Hardy moved the report be approved, Pat Totman seconded, the motion passed unanimously.

Corner Books continue to be the biggest fundraiser (about $1000 a month). The Friends fund the programming at the library.

Strategic Plan Report

The Board met to plan for the coming year.  It was decided to concentrate on one issue –memberships. Since all we do is related to reaching out to our membership, this goal will be our sole issue this year.

Upcoming Fundraisers

  • March Book Sale – March 23 & 24; volunteer sign-up sheets available.
  • Culver’s Fundraising Night – April 22; Volunteer sign-up sheets available

Library Donor Wall

Friends information has been added to the Donor Wall located across from the Children’s Room.

Handouts

Many handouts were available: 2024 Calendar of Events; 2023 Annual Report; BookPage publication; Membership Renewal form; quarter sheets for Book sale and Culver’s; Creative Studio brochure.

General Meetings

  • April 19 – Kathleen Carr from the Growing Scene, Inc., “New Plants for 2024”
  • May 17– no meeting; Fundraising Luncheon at the library

Program: “Spilling the Tea: Women’s Activism in the Revolutionary Period” by Sarah Sullivan from McHenry County college. $35/person, tickets go on sale April 1 – May 10

  • June 21—Evening meeting, 6:30 p.m. “A Visit with Jane Austin”

Jim Zdeb moved the meeting adjourn, Marilyn Graunke seconded, the motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
