Meeting Minutes – June 17, 2016

General Meeting
June 17, 2016

The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in the Program Room of the Library, Friday, June 17, 2016. Those in attendance were:

Sandy Cooper, Pat Cornwell, Pat Darow, Deanna Engelke, Marilyn Graunke, Nancy Hardy, Karen Hutchings, Stevie Massei, Beth McKenna, Shirley Nowak, Janis Ruffino, Martha Schooley, Judy Schrader, Marge Smith, Karen Zarembski, Friends Liaison-Pamela Kampwerth

Vice-President, Janis Ruffino, called the meeting to order at 11:00.

Board Election
At the May General meeting all of the current Board was reelected and at the June Board meeting the current officers assumed the same offices.

Director’s Report
Pamela Kampwerth reported for the Director:

  • The Trustees passed the budget for the new year.
  • Repainting of the white on the entire building is in progress.
  • The driveway entrance from Main St. has been patched but the whole needs to be done.
  • Money from a memorial for Scott Lindsey’s mother has been used for floral plantings around the gazebo.
  • Summer Reading sign-up is up about 17% from last year.
  • Bill Jorgensen and Virginia Maravilla have resigned from Board of Trustees. The Board will receive letters of interest from candidates to fill the positions until April 2017.

Secretary’s Report
The May minutes were reviewed. Marilyn moved the minutes be accepted, Nancy seconded, the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report
The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $20,352.24. Pat moved the treasurer’s report be accepted, Shirley seconded and the motion carried.

Grant Award
Baker & Taylor, the book distributor the Library uses, selected the Huntley Friends as one of two winners of a $1000.00 grant. The program from last year that was the subject of the grant was the Minilinks event. 

Book Sales
The June book sale netted $675. The next sale will be August 5-7. The sale will be open Friday night during the Minilinks. Everyone was encouraged to sign-up for times during the three days.

Minilinks will be held on August 5. The organizational meeting will be July 12, 11:30 a.m. at Genevieve Hochwarter’s home. Kona Ice will be at the event. Letters seeking sponsorship have been mailed.

Summer Reading
The Summer Reading sign-up was very successful. Information about AmazonSmile, Minilinks and the Book sales were distributed. The white folders, suitable for coloring, were well received. Kona Ice did better than last year, $211.00.

Jewelry Sale Committee
A new fundraiser scheduled for October 22 will sell costume jewelry. Library Friends and their friends will be invited to donate jewelry they no longer want. Tables will be set up in the program room, priced $1.00, $3.00, $5.00 and specialty pieces. Unsold items will be donated to a nonprofit. Anyone interested in being on the committee is invited to a meeting on August 9th, 11:30 a.m. at Genevieve Hochwarter’s home.

The July General meeting will be at Tom’s Farm.

Karen Hutchings moved that the meeting adjourn, Pat Cornwell seconded, the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
