Meeting Minutes – November 17, 2017

Huntley Area Public Library
Friends Foundation
General Meeting – November 17, 2017

Attendance: Frank Novak, Pamela Kampwerth, Karen Hutchings, Genevieve Hochwarter, Sandy Cooper, Reta Stohs, Connie Corwin, Patricia Cornwell, Pat Totman, Diane Benson, Marilyn Graunke, Judy Schrader, Shirley Nowak, Nancy Hardy, Marilyn Twarog

At 11:09 a.m., Genevieve Hochwarter opened the meeting and introduced our speaker, Director Frank Novak.

He spoke of the possibility of a property tax freeze and how it would hurt the library since we do not have other income streams to offset a reduction in funds coming in.

Results of Community Survey should be available soon.

December 2 the library board will meet to discuss the possibilities of funding a building to replace the failing trailers for an addition that might total around 10,000 square feet. We have three triple wide trailers comprising 2880 square feet. The Village is expected to approve use of the trailers for at least another year.

We will again be participating in a Very Merry Huntley December 1 from 3 pm – 8:30 pm.

The library will be closed February 9 and March 9 for staff training from CCS to the Polaris system.

Secretary’s Report – Connie Corwin moved to approve the September minutes and Judy Schrader seconded. Approved. We met at Boulder Ridge for the Friends Annual Luncheon in place of an October meeting.

Treasurer’s Report – Sandy Cooper reviewed recent expenses and income, showing a balance as of this date of $29,297.96. Reta Stohs moved to approve the report and Shirley Nowak seconded. Approved.

Luncheon – October 20th luncheon was at Boulder Ridge Country Club. Approximately the same number of people attended as last year and the October date appeared to be good vs. trying to schedule a date during December when many people have other holiday commitments.

Baskets – Lovely holiday baskets are on display with tickets available at $1 each or 6 for $5. Many nice donations came from local businesses. Winning tickets will be drawn at our December general meeting, December 15th.

December Book Sale – December 1-3. On Friday night, during Very Merry Huntley, we will have a private sale for only ticket holders of Very Merry Huntley.

Marilyn Graunke moved to adjourn and Nancy Hardy seconded. Genevieve adjourned the meeting at 11:42 am.

Respectfully submitted,
Karen Hutchings
