General Meeting, February 18, 2022
The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in Program Room 1
Those in attendance: Dottie Bobzin, Carol David, Deanna Engelke, Nancy Hardy, Genevieve Hochwarter, Dianne Hoerter, Candace Maloney, Shirley Nowak, Sandy Portincaso, Janis Ruffino, Marge Smith, Penny Thoma, Ellie Vofel, Staff: Frank Novak, Director; Pamela Kampwerth, Head of Programming and Outreach; Susan Riddle-Mojica, Reference Librarian

At 11:05, President Genevieve Hochwarter called the meeting to order, welcoming everyone to the first in person meeting in two years.

Director’s Report
Frank Novak, Director, recapped the 2-year building project which coincided with the COVID pandemic. At this time some building issues are being addressed and some items have been impacted by supply-change issues. He thanked the members for helping the building program happen.

Program

Secretary’s Report
Deanna Engelke moved that the November secretary’s report be accepted. Shirley Nowak seconded. The motion passed.
Marge Smith read a letter from the Library thanking the Friends for their check of $34,000 to be used for programing, ebooks, Ralph Hardy memorial, and other needs for the new building.

Treasurer’s Report
Carol David presented the Treasurer’s report, which showed a balance of $20,263.94 and $100,286.30 (7mo. CD). Part of the $20,000 will be used in the area connected the library to Parisek Park.

Book Sale Recap
The first sale in 2 years took place in 2 Program rooms. The added space allowed for more room to move around and more items out for sale. Clean up was easier and quicker. Everyone was pleased with the new set up.
For the first time in a long time a Friday’s Members Only sale held which raised $240. Total for the weekend was a record $1,723.
A Spring book sale is April 29 (Members Only), April 30 and May 1.

Breakfast Fundraising Program
The Breakfast is Wednesday, May 11 at Boulder Ridge Country Club. R.J. Lindsey as Marshal Field will present “The Rise of Chicago”. Sponsorship letters will be mailed in March. Tickets go on sale April 1: $35 each.

Culver’s Fundraising Night
The next Culver’s night is Monday, April 4, 4 – 8 p.m.
Volunteers are needed.

Nancy Hardy moved the meeting adjourn, Janis Ruffino seconded, the motion passed.
