Program: “The Sun King: Louis XIV of France”
Louis XIV still holds the record for the longest reign of any King in the world.  He ruled France for 73 years, built Versailles, and created an “absolute monarchy”.  Louis XIV was the sun that others followed, even forcing the nobles to leave Paris and live at Versailles while England was chopping off the head of their king.  What were his methods of retaining power in the decadent French court?  How did he bring France to the fore of international fashion and power?  This presentation will have some intriguing history along with some scandalous and juicy court gossip.
June 16, 6 to 7 p.m.; Program: “Nellie Bly” presented by Debra Ann Miller, Historical Women of Letters
