HAPLD FRIENDS FOUNDATION
General Meeting
April 15, 2016

The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in the Program Room of the Library, Friday, April 15, 2016. Those in attendance were:

Diane Becker, Diane Benson, Kathleen Carr, Sandy Cooper, Pat Cornwell, Connie Corwin, Betsy Davis, Judy Eng, Deanna Engelke, Muriel Fink, Janet Gorgius, Marilyn Graunke, Nancy Hardy, Genevieve Hochwarter, Karen Hutchings, Stevie Massei, Shirley Nowak, Janis Ruffino, Martha Schooly, Judy Schrader, Marge Smith, Bert Stohs, Reta Stohs, Pat Welch, Karen Zarembski, Pamela Kampwerth – Friends Liaison, Leigh Ann Porsch -Library Communications Coordinator, Frank Novak -Library Director

Following a presentation by Kathleen Carr, “New Plants for 2016”, President Genevieve Hochwarter, welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 11:50 a.m.

Director’s Report
Pamela Kampwerth reported for the Director that:

  • The Library is in the process of redoing its website
    • Easier to use
    • Registration will be available online
    • Registration and payment for Friends’ activities will be available online
  • Friday, May 6 the Library will be closed for Staff Institute Day
  • Monday, April 18 Kona Ice will be in the parking lot from 11:00-1:00 p.m. offering free ices. It is part of “National Chill Out Day” (after doing your taxes).
  • The Library had a table at the Sun City Expo. They spoke to 370 people and issued 27 cards.
  • On Thursday, April 21 the Library is going to the village to ask for a variance on the sign regulations.

 Secretary’s Report
The March minutes were reviewed. Nancy moved the minutes be accepted, Pat seconded, the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report
The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $15,615.31. Most of the income was from book sales and the May Breakfast. Expenses were for insurance and a tablet to be used for credit card purchases. Reta moved the report be accepted, Muriel seconded, the motion carried.

Culver’s Night
Culver’s night was held at the new location and was one of the Friends’ best nights: percentage of sales, $356.00; raffle, $100.00; tips, $77.62. The next Culver’s night is Monday, October 10. 

Book Sales
Reta thanked everyone who helped at the April sale. It was good to have so many volunteers. Saturday’s sale was low due to the weather but Sunday’s sales were good. Proceeds of the sale were $542.75. The next sale will be June 4th and 5th. Reta reminded everyone to put the dates of Fall Fest on their calendar, September 23-25. This is the biggest sale of the year and needs many volunteers.

 National Library Week
In celebration of National Library Workers’ Day, the Friends provided lunch for the staff on Wednesday, lasagna from Alfredos. The staff was very happy with the lunch. 

Breakfast, May 11
120 tickets have been sold.

Growing Green Days
The Friends will receive 10% of sales at The Growing Scene May 20-22. Flyers are needed in order for the Friends to get the benefit.

 May Elections
There are nine positions on the Friends Board that are up for election in May. Those interested in running should let Pamela or Genevieve know.

Karen moved that the meeting adjourn, Marilyn seconded, the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 12:10 p.m.
