Meeting Minutes – August 19, 2016

HAPLD FRIENDS FOUNDATION
General Meeting        August 19, 2016

The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in the Library Program Room, Friday, August 19, 2016. Those in attendance were:
Melody Bickoff, Sandy Cooper, Pat Cornwell, Connie Corwin, Pat Darow, Deanna Engelke, Muriel Fink, Stevie Massei, Shirley Nowak, Janis Ruffino, Marge Smith, Bert Stohs, Reta Stohs, Volunteer Office Assistant, Cory Sesko; Library Intern, Candace Maloney; Library Communications Coordinator: Leigh Ann Porsch

Vice President, Janis Ruffino, called the meeting to order at 11:03 a.m. She welcomed everyone to the meeting and invited everyone to introduce themselves.

Director’s Report
LeighAnn Porsch reported for the Director. Over 3200 patrons were signed up for the Summer Reading Program, 10% more than last year. The total of those who completed the program was 5% greater than last year. The Friends were thanked for their support of the program.

Secretary’s Report
Marge read from the ALA United for Libraries newsletter about Huntley’s award winning Mini-links. Only two Friends groups in the United States were awarded a $1000.00 grant. She also read a note from Karin Thogersen and Anne Kunzen thanking the Friends for funding a youth volunteer party in appreciation for their time supporting the Summer Reading Program. After reviewing the minutes, Pat moved that July’s minutes be accepted, Reta seconded, the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report
Sandy gave the treasurer’s report which showed a balance of $21,042.50. Shirley moved the treasurer’s report be accepted, Connie seconded and the motion carried.

Book Sales
Reta reported that the August Book Sale started with the Mini-Links on Friday night with a different crowd than usual. $100.00 was raised. The total for the weekend was $619.00.

Fall Fest, at the Cosman Center, is the biggest book sale of the year. It requires many volunteers to make it successful. Reta encouraged everyone to volunteer for set up, take down, cashiering, and/or book straightening.

Mini-Links
The award winning Mini-Links event raised $1810.00 plus income from Kona Ice sales.

Jewelry Sale Committee
A new fundraiser scheduled for October 22 will sell costume jewelry. Jewelry donations can be left in a basket in Pam’s office. Anyone interested in being on the committee is invited to a meeting September 9th, 11:30 a.m. at Genevieve Hochwarter’s home. Take flyers advertising the sale and distribute to friends.

Holiday Basket Committee
The first meeting for those interested in serving on the Holiday Basket Committee will follow the next General Meeting, September 16.

September General Meeting
The September 16th General Meeting will require registration. Nancy Bacheller will give a local history presentation. 

Northern Illinois Regional Friends Meeting
The next Regional Meeting is October 15th at Crystal Lake Library.

Connie moved that the meeting adjourn, Pat seconded, the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 11:40 a.m.
