Meeting Minutes – May 18, 2018

HAPLD FRIENDS FOUNDATION
General Meeting              May 18, 2018

The HAPLD Friends Foundation members met in the Program Room at the Library.  Those in attendance were: Diane Benson, Sandy Cooper, Connie Corwin, Pat Darow, Carol David, Deanna Engelke, Marilyn Graunke, Nancy Hardy, Genevieve Hochwarter, Candace Maloney, Stevie Massei, Shirley Nowak, Janis Ruffino, Marge Smith, Reta Stohs, Pat Totman; Rob Aavang, librarian;  Pamela Kampwerth, Library Liaison

Library Technology Jeopardy
Pamela introduced Rob Aavang from Computer Services. As the members played Library Technology Jeopardy they learned about the many online services the Library offers.

 At 11:37, Genevieve thanked Rob for his program and called the business meeting to order.

Secretary’s Report
Diane moved the April minutes be accepted, Connie seconded, the motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report
Diane gave an overview of the transactions for the past month. The balance currently is $14,428.58. The taxes were prepared this month. The Staff Appreciation Committee requested $650 for the coming year. This expense was approved by the Board. Reta moved the report be accepted, Nancy. seconded, the motion passed.

Human Race
Twelve walkers participated in the event supporting the Friends. A good time was had by all. Consider participating next year.

Breakfast
A record number of tickets (130) were sold. There were fewer sponsors this year. Profits were down about $3000. R.J. Lindsey is booked for next May.

Growing Green Days Fundraiser
The Friends will receive 10% of sales at the Growing Scene May 18-20. Shoppers must present a flyer from the library.

June Book Sale
Volunteers are needed for the June Book Sale, June 2-3 and for set-up on June 1 at 4:55 p.m.

Summer Reading Registration
The theme for summer reading is “It’s O-fish-ally Summer”. The first day of registration for Summer Reading will be June 6. Friend volunteers will be handing out blue folders. Kona Ice will be at the Library both June 6 and 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

June General Meeting
The June general meeting will be an evening meeting. The program will be Debra Ann Miller portraying Jane Austen. Registration for the evening is required.

Mini Links
The first 2018 mini links planning meeting will follow the Board meeting, June 1.

Election of new Board of Directors
Deanna moved that the current board be reelected by acclimation. Pat seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Library Update
Pamela brought the group up-to-date on the work toward a 2019 referendum.  An initial team of 10, made up of community leaders will meet with the architects. Later, an “Innovation Day” event will occur to get input from a larger group of people.

Shirley moved the meeting adjourn, Connie seconded, the motion passed.
